CHAPTER NEWS CHAPTER EVENTS

We’re doing it again! ATW Silicon Valley is a proud sponsor of Tech Challenge 2008, conducted by the The Tech Museum of San Jose. This year's challenge is to build a device that uses only the power of the flow of a river to deliver water to a village. In line with our mission to empower young girls for future careers in science, technology, engineering and math we are also sponsoring an all-girl team. The Aqua-Ducks (the team picked a name in keeping with the theme) consists of a group of smart and enthusiastic girls from the Sunnyvale Middle School who are being mentored by two girls from St. Francis High School in Mountain View. Northrop Grumman is partnering with ATW, providing a small team of women engineers to provide adult guidance (and serve as terrific role models) and the use of a workshop in their Sunnyvale facilities for the design and build of the device. May 3 is the day of the big competition. Go Aqua-ducks!

On the leadership front, we have several dynamic new leaders who have joined our team and are taking on new program initiatives. Please visit chapter leadership for more details.

CHAPTER MEMBERS CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT

The tech industry is one of the best places for women to work in terms of pay, opportunities, and challenges. Yet women occupy only 20% of technology jobs and 9% of Board seats and Officer positions in Fortune 500 technology companies. Through our programs, we seek to grow the pool of experienced and successful women in technical organizations and professions.

The Silicon Valley Chapter is the largest chapter and includes professional women employed in high-tech and bio-tech companies, or working with technology-focused companies.

Reaching over 1500 members and event participants, ATW Silicon Valley provides a forum open to all levels and across all disciplines from a wide range of technology companies and independent professionals. Participation consists of women and men from high-tech firms as well as the service industries that support them. Membership offers unique benefits, including event discounts, member-only events, and member-only programs, such as our mentoring program.

ATW Silicon Valley is a large and dynamic chapter with a variety of programs.

  • The chapter delivers highly popular monthly evening programs hosted at corporate sponsor sites, customized to fill the needs of the host employees and the community at large. The programs cover a wide range of thought-provoking, stimulating and educational topics, ranging from how to get out of your rut and grow in your career to what tech trends we need to look out for in the year ahead.
  • The SV chapter also produces in-depth development workshops with well-known expert facilitators, covering areas such as how to advance your career or refine your management skills.
  • Our over-subscribed, guided mentoring program matches members for one-on-mentoring with select Valley executives, based on specific goals and needs.
  • The ‘Great Minds’ program focuses on initiatives that will encourage young teenage girls to actively develop an interest in careers in science and technology.
If you would like to actively participate in delivering these outstanding programs, please contact us at siliconvalley@atwinternational.org. For more details about our upcoming programs, click here.
